ALCATRAZ
It had been so long since Alcatraz had been in a land like this. It was a weird land, squashed between two mountains. Walking up the mountainside, there were surprisingly few loose stones. It was still treacherous, but it was better than some of the lands he had been in before. Still not the best, obviously, but better.
Standing up on two legs, the dark bay stallion let out a piercing whinny that split the morning air like a hoof splinters thin ice.
"I hereby claim this land as my own! Does anybody dare to challenge me?" Alcatraz called out, listening to the world fall silence in response to his daring call. No immediate response came, instead followed by the eerie call of a bird.
Pleased with his results, the stallion whinnied again, throwing his hooves into the air as he reared. Sending the dark weapons cascading towards the ground, the echoing rumble made him that much more pleased with himself.
Alcatraz turned and gently trotted down the slope, occasionally sending a small shower of rocks gliding down the low mountainside. Reaching the marsh below was no easy task, taking a time that Alcatraz was unable to calculate.
It was somewhat hot down here, but it was nice too. However, it was obvious that Alcatraz would always prefer the cooler months. Who liked the heat anyway?
Down here, Alcatraz repeated his loud call. "Anybody who dares to challenge me, speak now, or forever hold your peace!" The words came out as more of sneers, and they echoed far more than they had up on the mountains.
If there was no response, this land was his, and always would be. Or at least, that was how things worked in his opinion. Not that it always worked out the way his mind thought things would.
But that was alright, because for now... For now, Alcatraz had a home.
